The Thrill of the Chase
By: Linda Waller On August 16, 2013

If you thought foxhunts were crazy, watch this video as riders whip and whirl their horses around in an Irish hunt chase.  The exciting race is a relay, and each team member sprints around the course, jumping over natural obstacles in the pursuit of the finish line and handing the baton off to the next teammate.

According to Horse and Hound, this video is the final round of the hunt chase at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show. The competing teams were the Killinick Harriers and the Westmeath Foxhounds, the former coming out on top. “Each team included 1 member of hunt staff, 1 lady rider, a rider over the age of 35 and a male rider over 12.5 stone.” As you’ll see, there’s nothing boring about this competition, from course right down to the handoffs—in fact, a traditional hunting horn was as a baton.
